What’s so interesting about this design?⁣ It’s inspired by the Sierpinski triangle. A fractal constructed from equilateral triangles. Like all fractals, you can zoom in on a part of the design and see a uniform image of the whole. Instead of equilateral triangles, tetrahedrons are used.⁣ A tetrahedron is a quadrilateral that is made up of four equilateral triangles.

The tetrahedron is part of the five Platonic solids. These five polyhedra all have equal sides, angles and are made up of regular polygons. All these shapes also fit into a sphere, with all corners touching the edge of the sphere. There are no other known polyhedra with these characteristics.

The use of a tetrahedron instead of an equilateral triangle gives this design a three-dimensional character. The five Platonic solids are seen as the basic shapes and building blocks of the universe.⁣
